January 2025 Newsletter

Hello to all our members and thank you for your support.

Our January meeting was called to order by VP Nate at 11:05am and we currently have 195 members. The minutes from our December meeting were read and motion made to accept.

Treasurer Michelle handed out copies of her report and answered any questions. Michelle also took in raffle ticket monies/ticket stubs too for our February daily raffle. If you need more tickets or need to turn in monies please contact Brian Bartron 716-491-1847. Thanks for doing this again Brian.

Jack Rase reported only 13 NYSSA raffle tickets left to hand out and they have to be back in by April 1st. This is a great way for both us and NYSSA to make some money each year and there are lots of prizes on the ticket.

Trail coordinator Steve reported that fuel tanks will be topped off and trails are marked. Thanks to all who participate in this endeavor. Remember to record your hours and turn them into Michelle Hess. We need these for our trail fund reporting each year. Steve also mentioned that the County Federation is working on new paper maps. In the age of everything going digital and online it’s pretty cool to have a map you can fold out and look at.

President Chance has our NH groomer at his shop in Hunt and has finished putting on a new front to rear heavy duty frame sufficient for doing some real work pulling our trail paver. Thanks Chance and all our guys who keep our groomers going. Steve and our Federation are inquiring as to where the state gets it’s snowfall numbers from? This can have devastating consequences for our funding going forward.

Maybe you haven’t heard about a “possible extended hunt” time frame idea being floated by NYS lasting to the end of January each year. This is obviously very concerning for the snowmobiling community. VP Nate read a letter regarding a questionnaire survey. Steve believes it’s important that we have our landowners participate so we can provide NYS with information from the clubs. A letter from NYSSA wants to know how many landowners they could send the questionnaire to? A motion was made saying that 20% of our landowners would be a good amount. We currently have 356 landowners so that would be a fair sampling. Much discussion ensued on this matter.

There really is a lot to hear about and discuss at each meeting so please come out and join us.

We will have a board meeting after our regular meeting Feb 2nd 11am here at the Silver Lake Sportsmens Club.

Thanks to our officers, board and members for making OVSA a great place to belong.

Chance Vogt President OVSA
