December 2024 Newsletter

Hello and Merry Christmas to all our members this year.

Our December meeting was called to order at 11:10am by President Chance. The November minutes were read and approved. Currently we have 94 members but with this snow and cold that number will be going up fast in the next few weeks.

The Treasurer’s report was handed out and any questions were answered by our Treasurer Michelle Hess.

We hold our election of club officers every year in December and the following are the results.

President Chance Vogt
Vice President Nate Merle
Secretary Jane Gebel
Treasurer Michelle Hess
Trail Coordinator Steve Cox
Club Administrator Jeff Fitch
Sergeant of Arms Jack Rase
Board of Directors Tim Rosenberg, Brian Bartron, Jim Day, Lynn Miller, Gail Lawson, Tracy Lawson, Morgan Capin, Steve Rase, Glenn O’Connor, Shawn Baker, Bruce Blankenship, Todd Hofheins, Ken VanDuzer, Dale Rissinger. A motion was made to accept the slate. One ballot was cast by the Secretary to accept.

Jake Rase spoke about the NYSSA raffle tickets and how we get $2.50 for every $5 ticket sold. If you would like some please give Jack a call 585 786 5051.

Yesterday we held our annual safety course at the Warsaw FD hall. It was a nice turn out with 10 students and many parents stayed too. Everyone was very eager to learn more about the sport of snowmobiling and the safety aspect which is so important. I would like to thank Jane, Nate, Jeff and Gus from the Railroad for their help and continued support to assist OVSA in growing our sport. The future of many things we enjoy and belong to depends on us training up our youth. We at OVSA are committed to working with our youth and their parents each year. Also a big thank you to the Warsaw FD for hosting us.

Brian Bartron is heading up our February daily raffle and he is accepting ticket stubs and monies. If you would like some tickets please give him a call at 716 491 1847. Thank you Brian and all who support our largest fundraiser of the year.

Bridge and trail work are currently being done so if you can help please contact some members in your area to do so. Trail marking is proceeding but some areas still need corn to be combined.

A recent issue that has come up is our high snow mileage designation being cut by the State. They are using the NOAA records to justify this. This could affect up to 60 miles of our system and significantly impact yearly club reimbursement too. This and rumors of the DEC wanting to extend deer season possibly to the end of January can have some potentially devastating effects on our sport.

The members voted to hold meetings on Sunday mornings at 11am going forward at the Silver Lake Sportsmens Club. Sunday January 5th 11am will be our next meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 12:01pm

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

President Chance Vogt
