September 2020 Newsletter

August 30, 2020

Hello to all our OVSA members and snowmobile enthusiasts. We held our September meeting a week early because of the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The minutes from last month’s meeting were read and Treasurer Gail handed out the treasurer’s report.

We addressed some items from our last meeting such as trails in our northern area and maintenance repairs on our BR 180 groomer and bridges. Help is needed for some trail work in the Bliss and Wethersfield area. Trimming along the rail bed is vital each year and important for safety.

We have our trail system completely GPSd every 3 years according to NYS Parks regulations which is important with changing trails. More sledders use GPS each year to find their way around and patronize our vendors. Many of us have been using this way finding system for years and now it’s becoming more relevant to sledding.

Every year we hold our safety course in November but we haven’t received any instructions from NYS about this. A call is being made to find out more information on whether we’ll be able to host one again this year. Safety is vital for our sport and early training is very important.

Our October cash raffle is proceeding well and Tom and Jane still have some tickets available. Please contact them at 585-786-2332. The last day to turn them in will be Sunday September 27th from 10-12 Noon at the Silverlake Sportsmen’s Club. This is replacing our normally held steak/shrimp event which is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Thanks you for your support.

We are all looking forward to a great sledding season and nothing is more social distancing than being on a snowmobile. Let’s make the best of a very different year and encourage your sledding friends to join our club if they haven’t already and let’s have some fun.
